The Great Gatsby tells the story of Nick Carraway, a hopeful young writer (based on Fitzgerald himself). In the spring of 1922, he arrives in New York City from the Midwest, a city marked by declining moral standards, jazz glamour, and powerful bootleggers. In his search for the American dream, Nick becomes the neighbor of the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby, who regularly throws lavish parties. On the other side of the bay lives his cousin Daisy with her husband, the blue-blooded womanizer Tom Buchanan. Nick is thus drawn into the fascinating world of the super-rich, their illusions, romances, and intrigues.
